We had a ball at NEC 2018! The latest Collections embodied our core laid back luxe style. NEW Henderson and Marlow epitomised what A&J are famous for: sumptuous blends of leathers and fabrics for the ultimate in cosy style.
Decadent Jean stole the show taking pride of place at the front of the stand. Dressed in a wardrobe of dusky pinks and ochres, the curves of the Jean and handcrafted buttoning detail are reminiscent of 1920’s glamour.
Our after show party was suitably frenetic, involving all the A&J team being particularly hands on in the generous pouring of all booze during the event. Lights out came a tad early so we improvised and added a, ‘lock in’ to the night’s fun.
We are now fantastically busy making all the lovely new Collections that launched.
Thank you to all our retail friends for making January Furniture Show our best ever!
Here is a busy video of everyone enjoying the fun! You can view the A&J 2018 NEC Furniture Show here
Love and laughter xx
Our stand mixed rustic and authentic textures, both real and photographic, deep shades and shadows, with neon signage to reflect our brand attitude. Mark Smith, founder and Design Director created brand new sofa designs that really captured our Club Cool Mantra. Our latest designs are slim armed, sexy and built with beautiful new leathers. Satchel leather is soft, supple and weathered, available in delicious shades of Pepper, Nutmeg, Biscotti and Latte.
Vintage classic, Franklin made a return, dressed in ethnic kilms, stripes and weaves. Welcome to our world, Shanghai Style!
A&J Founder Mark Smith and artist wife Julie’s home was chosen to feature in Country Homes and Interiors magazine. Julie talks about how she gave a new lease of life to a dated cottage by creating a contemporary interior with pops of colour and vintage touches. We love her electric style!

We were fabric focused and ready to buy at Industry show Proposte and a whirlwind tour of our favourite stands brought lots of inspiration and answers to our Stylist’s product briefs. We interspersed the buying with an evening of being thoroughly spoilt by Mark Williams and Emanuele of Pozzi who wined and dined us at the most amazing seafood restaurant – Italian food with plenty of fishy things thrown in? – Our idea of heaven.
Thank you and warm hugs to you all at Pozzi x
We absolutely fell head over heels in love with our latest location. Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, the creamy stone walls and multi textural backdrops called out to us and we knew our NEW A&J Sofa Collections would be at home here.
Making the most of natural picture lips, rough stone edges – that doubled nicely as shelving and uneven surfaces, Stylist Julie propped and placed her vintage image collection. From landscapes in peaceful sea greens to painterly floral brights, (with the odd nude interspersed for naughtiness!) – we love an A&J picture wall as the perfect backdrop to our designs.
The Wallace Collection took up residence in the dusky cottage style living room, with romantic timber beams and expanse of authentic Cotswold wall. Light swept in from chunky framed glass doors, across the wooly seat textures, revealing the soft woven feel of the fabric. Richly coloured Imogen looked great against the smooth nature of the limed timber walls and floor, the soft velvet contrasting beautifully with the calm backdrop. Emerald toned Hoxton found favour by the fire.
Light at this time of year can be incredibly challenging so we forged ahead and after indulging in a creamy scrambled egg breakfast, (best ever – thank you Jayne!) we cracked on, only stopping when the light had completely disappeared, by which time we could eat again.
This is our kind of cosy.
Much love Michelle xxx

Special thank you to our wonderful dream team, we simply could not do this without you and I love every minute working with you all – Polly, Ben, Julie, Jason, John, Ryan, Mike, Lee.
Thank you to Harry Ward, for creating our behind the scenes video without treading on anyone’s toes – great job!
What a whirlwind of a four days we had at The January Furniture Show, NEC. Busy, bustling and even slightly boozy, (our A&J signature G&T’s seemed incredibly popular!) Complete with sprigs of Rosemary, plucked fresh from our hedge our signature drink served as a welcome to all of our much loved customers.
Our NEW Collections showcased our signature laid back luxe style with our latest Club Cool vibe, which is summed up perfectly by The Bloomsbury and Hoxton ranges. The Bloomsbury embodies that mix and match fabric edit, selected by our stylists – Modern checks, twill, embroidered and velvet textures mix with well worn leathers and classic hand studding. In contrast the smooth lines of the Hoxton and emphasised by the soft and smooth nature of our latest fashionable, Tote, leather and the addition of the indulgent genuine velvets and trend led Boucle fabrics add detail and complete the look.
We wanted our stand to be like our A&J virtual home, full of our personality, mixing indoor with outdoor inspiration, nature loving leafy greens, twinkly fairy lights for sparkle and overall theatrical and fun loving with more than a touch of the English eccentric about it! Our picture wall interior was super sized and suitably eclectic, styled around the home of Founder and Design Director Mark Smith and his wife, Stylist Julie – we combined vivid collections of vintage paintings with graphic prints and touches of strong typography. Fake flower displays adorned every table and thanks Julie for painting certain tables red to pop against the green and black of the Hoxton.
As a special note I have to applaud the patience and fortitude of our own team combined with our stand builder’s poor unsuspecting electricians in their commitment to ensuring every lamp was put up, individually placed, hung at just the right height, in clusters and arrangements only known to my brain, (I’m sorry – big hugs).
Take a look at the world of A&J in our fast moving video above.
Here are the A&J family. Cannot thank our retail friends enough for making the show an exciting one!

The Alexander & James Experience
There’s a haven with our name on it this year at the Furniture China show in Shanghai. We’ve been designing new collections in fresh fabric and leather combinations since the beginning of the year and have been excitedly anticipating the grand unveiling today.
We think everyone should experience the indulgent mix of true British heritage, contemporary styling and pure lived in luxury, so our stand at the show allows you to relax, unwind, and absorb what Alexander and James is about.
Come and see familiar (and plenty of new!) faces from home and around the globe. Our sales executives and brand leaders are on hand at the show to assist retailers with knowledge on our products and offer expertise on building a collection for your own customers.
If you aren’t heading to Shanghai for the show this year, here’s a sneak peak at what’s nestled within the ivy and cosy lights on our stand…
We hope to see you there!

A&J getting in the festival spirit with their chill out lounge in The POP UP Hotel, Glastonbury.
The range we have in there is the Boutique Festival Collection containing Theo sofas and chairs, Abraham Junior and Jude Chair with The Victoria Foot Stool as a great accent piece.
While Glastonbury is more associated with mud, which more than 100,000 revellers are again having to deal with at this year’s music festival, those who opted for a more upmarket choice of accommodation are seeing new upholstery.
Those staying at The Pop Up Hotel, a collection of tents, yurts, cabinets and trailers just outside the festival can see Alexander & James’ Boutique Summer Festival Collection.
‘This exclusive collection reflects our love of the British countryside and features mix and match patterns and textures. The Abraham Junior is a boutique essential – perfect for any mini mansion. The Victoria footstool and Cute Button footstool both double up as impromptu tables and are brilliant in boudoir, bedroom or back garden weather permitting,’ says Michelle Hoines-White, Alexander & James creative director.
Next month will see The Pop Up Hotel, and the upholstery, at the Cornbury festival in Oxfordshire.
