There’s a feeling of uncertainty for everyone at the moment but there are things we can all do to stay positive. With many people self isolating, now’s the time to find new ways to enjoy home – as the saying goes, there’s no place like it. We must also remember our key workers and supermarket staff along with many others who are currently at home less than usual. We know this time is increasingly challenging, but we’re here with some simple suggestions to help elevate your day.
We’ll be sharing posts on current interior trends and inspirations as often as we can for those planning on undertaking any home improvements. We’ll also be working on some A&J style mindful activities to share with our followers – we think staying creative is key to maintaining positivity in times like these!
To get us started, we’re sharing 3 ways to ensure you’re still finding time for yourself in all the uncertainty.
Make a Mood Board
We love creating mood boards in our design department, and it’s easier than you think to make your own at home. We’d recommend apps such as Morpholio Board and Over. You can experiment for hours with different colour schemes and trends, and before you know it you’ve got a full room planned out. Below is an example we’ve made with Over featuring our Furniture Village Soho Chair – why not try creating your own board featuring one of A&J’s sofas, chairs or footstools and share it on Instagram with our hashtag #alexanderandjamessofas – we’d love to see them and we’ll share our favourites!
A few starter tips for your first mood board – it should include at least 2 lifestyle images that you love (find some easily on Pinterest or Instagram), your chosen colour palette, clear images of furniture in your scheme, and accessories that fit the look. We’d always include some greenery and examples of texture to our boards, it helps create a finished look.
Here’s the Pinterest board that helped with this scheme!
This Spring is no doubt different to any we’ve had before, but one thing stays the same. It’s the best opportunity to spring clean your house and garden. Utilise your outdoor space – and if you don’t have that, bring the outside in! Monstera and Pampas grass are a hot trend at the moment so look out for these! Remember, plants make people happy!
And if someone you know isn’t currently able to spend much time at home (Our Key Workers and NHS Heros), why not do something to help them relax. Send some flowers or order them a new plant to remind them they’re appreciated – it’s good for your own soul and will no doubt add a sparkle to their day.
Create a Wish List or Treat Yourself
Our retailers have temporarily had to close, so browsing online is the safest and most relaxing way to ‘window shop’ or buy that statement sofa or chair you’ve been swooning over for a while. And if shopping isn’t currently on your mind, make a wish list for a later date – our retailers would love nothing more than to see customers both loyal and new walk through the door when they reopen! If you’re not sure where your nearest one is, find them here.
We’ll all be finding new routines and seeking solutions to fit in work, family and staying healthy. Be sure to make time each day for some self care – even if just for 5 minutes! Let us know what you get up to, and whether there’s anything in particular you’d like to see from us over on Instagram, Facebook and our blog over the coming week.
